The season finale of Meet The Drapers Sunday night ended with some big news. Tim Draper of famed Draper Associates (and purveyor of bold neckties) announced he’s investing more than $90,000 across five startups on Republic.
While the show connects entrepreneurs to the Silicon Valley powerhouse that is the Draper family, the finalists were not exactly your typical Valley startups. Five of final teams had female founders, three had minority founders, and all six teams represented a cross-section of society.
Republic gives the other 97% the power to choose the future we want to see by funding the companies they believe in. We believe that requires something a bit different — Republic introduced five of the six finalists to the Drapers through our vetting process.
Pigeonly — $50,000
Pigeonly is the affordable way to search, find & communicate with an incarcerated loved one.
“Until we rewrite the system of crime and punishment, Pigeonly will create the marketplace for the people suffering in prison.”
MightyWell — $10,000
MightyWell is a line of fashionable and functional products that transform the patient experience.
“MightyWell is the designer brand for making medical patients look sharp, whatever their ailment.”
Farm from a Box — $10,000
Farm from a Box is a complete off-grid toolkit for tech-powered agriculture.
“If you want to take up organic farming, Farm from a Box can give you 2 productive acres, automating much of the difficult work.”
Preemadonna — $10,000
Preemadonna powers the Nailbot — the smartphone nail art printer
“Preemadonna can paint your nails with any design you choose in a split second. I chose a photo of my Dad. It was awesome.”
Vacayo — $10,000
Vacayo is a landlord’s favorite tenant.
“Vacayo makes it easy to rent your place to the day renters. Landlords can work with Vacayo and simply collect the checks. Vacayo does the rest.”
We built Republic to democratize investing and level out the fundraising landscape for founders and investors. It’s a vision of a platform where investors can back startups that change the world, and companies can raise in new and innovative ways.
“Working with Tim and the Draper family was a great experience for us, and the startups that ran Republic campaigns.” said Chuck Pettid, who leads Republic’s deals team. “We look forward to continuing this collaboration.”
Season 1 may be over, but new startups launch every week on Republic. Check out the list yourself. Know a company that should raise on Republic? Drop us a line.
Republic is providing this round up of Meet the Drapers because the show has supported our mission, to democratize startup investing. While we certainly think Tim Draper is a savvy investor, remember to do your own research before you decide to make any investment. Neither Tim Draper’s investment nor this blog post should be considered investment advice.
